Search for a dual-monitor KVM switch and these two brands dominate the results. They overlap heavily on price and on the specs that appear in listings, which makes choosing between them harder than it should be.
The difference is not really about specs. It is about what each company is.
The short version
TESmart is a KVM specialist. Deeper range, more edge cases covered, stronger after-sale programme.
UGREEN is a broad accessories manufacturer that makes KVM switches among many other things. Excellent build quality, cleaner industrial design, narrower range.
If your setup is standard, either works. If your setup has a complication, TESmart is more likely to have a model for it.
Range depth
This is the clearest difference.
TESmart has been building KVM switches since 2004 and does essentially nothing else. The catalogue runs from two-port single-monitor boxes through dual and triple monitor models, 8K DisplayPort units, 4K144Hz gaming switches, hybrid USB-C models, docking versions with Gigabit LAN, and 8- and 16-port rackmount units with RS232, LAN and IP control.
UGREEN's KVM lineup is solid but considerably narrower, concentrated on the mainstream configurations — two computers, one or two monitors, common resolutions.
If you need two computers on two monitors at 4K60, both brands have you covered. If you need four computers across three monitors with DisplayLink in the chain, only one of them does.
Build and design
UGREEN generally wins on physical presentation. Aluminium housings, cleaner lines, the kind of thing you do not mind having visible on a desk. As a company that builds a lot of consumer accessories, industrial design is a core competency.
TESmart's units are more utilitarian. Functional rather than attractive. On a desk this matters somewhat; in a cupboard or on a rack it does not matter at all.
Feature coverage
Both brands include EDID emulation on their current models, which is the non-negotiable feature — without it, switching away from a computer causes it to lose the display and rearrange all your windows.
TESmart goes further on the specialised features: VRR, ALLM and Dynamic HDR on its HDMI 2.1 gaming models, DSC on the 8K DisplayPort units, and explicit support for Thunderbolt, DisplayLink and MST configurations.
UGREEN covers the mainstream features competently, including 8K60 and high-refresh options in its upper models.
Compatibility with awkward setups
This is where the specialist advantage shows.
Mixed Mac and PC environments, Thunderbolt docks in the signal chain, and DisplayLink adapters are the setups where cheap KVM switches fail in confusing ways. TESmart explicitly targets these and publishes compatibility guidance for them.
UGREEN's switches work fine in standard setups. In unusual ones, you are more on your own.
If your desk involves a MacBook on a Thunderbolt dock alongside a Windows desktop, weight this heavily.
Support and warranty
TESmart operates a membership programme: register within the original warranty period and you get a meaningfully extended warranty, plus trade-in credit toward upgrades and ongoing technical support. Membership works even if you bought through a reseller, provided it was an authorised channel and you have proof of purchase.
UGREEN offers standard manufacturer warranty support, which is competent but less structured.
The caveat with TESmart's programme: you must register inside the original warranty window. Do it when the box arrives, not when something breaks.
Price
Broadly comparable at equivalent specs. Neither brand is systematically cheaper. Both discount regularly, which means the effective price on any given week depends more on what offers are running than on brand positioning.
That makes checking for a code genuinely worthwhile rather than a formality.
So which?
Standard setup, two machines, one or two monitors, mainstream resolution, and you care how it looks on your desk: UGREEN.
Anything involving Thunderbolt, DisplayLink, Mac-and-PC mixing, triple monitors, high refresh gaming, or more than four computers: TESmart.
You want the longest warranty and an upgrade path: TESmart, provided you actually register it.
You want it to disappear into a rack and never think about it: TESmart's enterprise units have no equivalent in UGREEN's range.
Before you buy either
Confirm EDID emulation. Match the resolution and refresh rate to the monitor you actually own. Check cable inclusion — some models ship with all required cables and some do not, and buying four KVM cables separately is an unpleasant surprise.
Then check current offers. TESmart's codes are on Discountsmaniac, and on a category where the two brands sit this close on price, a live discount is often the deciding factor.
